The group plays and all is good within the forrest. As he befriends Thumper, Flower, and Faline. Throughout the book Bambi makes friends and learns important life lessons. Because the original story takes place in a German forest, the animals are different than those in the Disney version and many are not named like Disney did.īambi is born the new prince of the forrest. Later he falls in love with Faline, marries her and has children by her.
But the young stag escapes, hides out and recovers. Toward the end of the story he even shoots Bambi in the leg. With a little stick in his hand that makes a loud report, he deals death that way. He is diabolically clever and seems to be everywhere.
Now He is the only human animal in the forest. also the hare, the squirrel, the old stag, the wood pecker, the screech-owl, the magpie, the crow, the doe Marena, and the wicked fox who meets his just ends from He. Then there are Prince Ronno and Karus the young deer. Some of the charters are his cousin Ava, and her two little fawns Gobo and Faline. The hero of the book is Bambi, and his destiny is traced from a tiny fawn to a mature stag with a family.
This book is nothing like the Walt Disney version. It has a dark blue hard cover, and as far as I can tell was translated and printed in English about 1932. From a more abridged story, I know the language sequence well, in which Flower tutors Bambi amid laughter. Emphasis is on friendship, fun, and like German-speakers of my family, Felix Salten lacks no humour. It focuses on education and joy: a Mother's love and a forest welcoming a birth. With relief, my 1941 Golden Book subtly skims it. I am an empath, who cannot abide animal death even fictionally.
